Have you ever heard the saying, “Go big with your sweaters, or go home”?…Probably not, since this is style is quite new! I remember my mother getting so angry when I would attempt to wear my fathers sweaters. At the time, baggy was in, but obviously my mother didn’t understand anything about style. Now, I simply tell myself I was way ahead of my time, because the neatest, most comfortable look for this season is big sweaters!
There are definitely a few rules of thumb when choosing this look. It isn’t easy to keep it
sexy while keeping it baggy, so here is how you do it.
- Keep Your Pants Tight. Do not try to wear a baggy sweater with baggy pants. A pair of leggings, jeggings, or even skinny jeans keep the outfit slim. If you have the perfect bootcut jeans (make sure they are fitted in most areas), try a baggy sweater that sits at the hips, where one shoulder may slightly fall.
- Don’t Buy a Larger Size. There are a variety of “big” sweaters to choose from this season. Try not to make your sweater “big” by buying a normal sweater in a larger size. This will make the sweater fall “big” in all the wrong places, like the armpit area, and arm length. This does not fit into this style category, but simply looks like you are wearing your fathers sweater.
- Plain or Busy, Try them Both! The Chevron style is beautiful and can be worn well by all body types, in my opinion. However, many that have a curvier body type, may not feel so comfortable in baggy already, and then adding busy may be overkill. If you don’t want busy, but want something more than plain, try something two tone…maybe a sweater with black on the front and grey on the arms and back.
This is a simple style to pull off by just about anyone, and with its A+ in comfort, I have a feeling it will be around for awhile. Buy a couple larger sweaters, try it out, and then don’t be afraid to keep adding to your collection if this becomes the perfect style for you. Try it out this winter!
